Robust
Network Architecture
CSD is different. We have a robust, redundant network that never goes down. Dual fiber optic connections, fully redundant hardware and technical expertise provides you the reliability you need. And since we're privately held, providing computer services in Colorado since 1981 and online services since 1993, you can be assured we'll be here for the long term. Dedicated
56kbps Account 128KB
Frame Relay Account T1
Frame Relay Includes: domain name registration and other necessary services to get your machine(s) on the net. We will install your router and monitor the line 24x7. If you don't need a full T1 order a clear channel T1 from Qwest and we can provision individual channels on the T1, giving you whatever speed you desire, 256k and up. Later if you decide you need more bandwidth it's a simple no-cost configuration change on the two DSUs, which we handle. This is the quickest path to provide you with scalable reliable bandwidth! CSD Internet Services PricingAll dedicated services include fixed IP addresses.CSD provides the following leased line services:
If you're shopping providers, look at the real startup costs. Some providers bury costs by making you purchase routers or DSU's for their end. Some "provide" the hardware in return for a long term contract. Our leased line installation fee includes both the router and DSU on our end of the connection. You are only responsible for purchasing the equipment that will be installed at your location. This includes 1 router, 1 DSU, and one leased line. We can assist in locating the appropriate equipment and will handle the install for you! Why would you choose Frame Relay (FR) over dedicated lines? We asked ourselves that too! Some providers prefer to sell FR connections rather than dedicated lines. We invite you to research this for yourself, but here is a quick summary of what we found: A 56kpbs FR connection gives you at most 56kbps of bandwidth. Performance degrades as traffic exceeds the ability of the carrier to handle the traffic. Performance degrades down to a fraction of the original bandwidth, the committed information rate (CIR). Usually 16kb with a 56kb line or as little as 768kb with a full T1 Frame Relay line. Since internet traffic tends to be 'bursty', this can make good sense, but doesn't justify the cost when compared to a good 56k modem connection. T1 Frame Relay is an entirely different story, since 768kbps, the usual minimum commited rate is even today very good bandwidth as far as internet access is concerned. Bottlenecks that slow data transfer below those speeds are normally at remote sites. Of course you may choose to start with a 128k service plan, using T1 ready hardware. This provides you with scalability in that you can start with a 128k connection to the Internet and adjust your bandwidth as your utilization increases, in 64k increments, with no additional hardware costs. T1
Local Loop charges
T1 loop charges can be exorbitant and must be part of your decision process. Any one of the 128k and up dedicated connections above require a T1 local loop between your location and the closest Qwest Central Office (CO). From that point on Frame Relay services ride a shared network between that CO and our facility, while full T1 local loops ride a dedicated T1 circuit path from your facility to ours. For most customers, T1 Frame Relay will be the most reliable and economical access method to our services. T1 local loops are a tariffed service, so the prices are fixed, and break down to three components: Installation, monthly "Access Link" charges, and Unit, or Network Costs for Frame Relay. The installation is paid for both ends of the circuit, so when you order a T1 from your facility to an ISP you pay the $313.25 (current rates as of 05/01) for each circuit end. Total of $726.50 for an end to end T1. An exception to this are Boulder Area customers, if your phone service is provided from the Boulder Main Qwest Central Office you can choose to use an open slot on our DS3 to Qwest Boulder Main for a significant savings. No install fee and reduced monthly transport costs. Call for more details. The Qwest "Access Link" charge is mileage dependant, with a base rate of around $126.50/mo for a 0 mile T1, plus $13/mile after the first mile. Standard disclaimer - rates are subject to change and may vary for specific conditions. Qwest also offers discounts for 3 and 5 year contracts. These numbers should be used as points of reference, call Qwest or us for specific quotes. Finally, the Unit, or network charges for Frame Relay Service vary by bandwidth commitments, and start at around $120/mo for 128k (1 PVC) and go up to $240/mo for 1.544Mbs.
So, a typical Qwest local loop cost for a T1 local loop is $626.50
install, and a minimum of $253/mo. Average with mileage is probably
around $350-$500/mo.
CSD Internet DS3 Both to ensure reliability of service, and to reduce some of the costs for our customers, CSD Internet installed a dedicated DS3 riding our own OC3 fiber from Qwest. This allows us to bring in all T1 traffic to our facility on that DS3. The advantage to you: our customers no longer have to order the T1 local loop from Qwest to CSD Internet, thereby saving them half of the normal install cost, and half of the monthly charges to Qwest. Call or email if you have any questions or need any clarification.
